Former First Lady Barbara Bush in Failing Health

Former first lady Barbara Bush, 92, is in “failing health,” according to a CNN source close to the family Sunday.

She has been in and out of the hospital, battling Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and congestive heart failure, according to the report.

The wife of former President George H.W. Bush for 73 years is now refusing hospitalization and taking her care at the Bush family home in Houston, per the report.

Barbara Bush is the lone living wife of a former U.S. president and the mother of another.

The office of former President George H. W. Bush released a statement to CNN, confirming after a “recent series of hospitalizations,” she has decided against seeking additional medical help.

“It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself — thanks to her abiding faith — but for others. She is surrounded by a family she adores, and appreciates the many kind messages and especially the prayers she is receiving,” the statement continued.
